HELP: Audacity can't play audio
When I open up the program, my computer audio instantly stops working, whether it be from my laptop speakers or any headphones i plug in. If I try to play any audio in the program, a window opens up saying "Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate." To fix my computer from playing any audio I have to restart it.
I have a feeling something might be wrong with my laptop's audio itself because this has happened before when I tried to use audio in a Cisco live buisness meeting.
I have a 2009 Dell Laptop w/ Windows Vista.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What are you trying to record from?
In Audacity, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"
Do you have anything selected for "Recording" and "Playback" devices?

Re: HELP: Audacity can't play audio
I'm not trying to record any audio to audacity, but just import mp3's.
I've tried all the playback settings
The defealt playback is: "Idependent (R.T.C.) Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)"
^This gives me the normal error message
The other two options are: "Primary Sound Driver" and "Speakers / Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)
^This gives me two error message windows: "Unanticipated Host Error" then the normal error message

What is the exact version of Audacity that you are using? (Look in "Help menu > About Audacity")

Yes, that's suspicious. Do you have Skype?I have a feeling something might be wrong with my laptop's audio itself because this has happened before when I tried to use audio in a Cisco live buisness meeting.
Does your Cicso Live look anything like this...

It may be worth checking on the Del website to see if there are updated drivers for your sound card.
