Clicking and popping noise and play back speed changed!

Post by twinspin » Sat May 21, 2011 2:17 am

So I've been using Audacity for several years now and everything has been working perfect. I typically use Audacity to record DJ mixes and remixes. Although I have not changed a single thing on the settings or anything else for that matter, now when I record a song I get this clicking and popping sound when I play back the song and also the speed of the song is slightly slower or faster. I tried recording several different songs but no luck. Audacity is acting really weird!! When I play back the song there will be a lot of static (popping and clicking sounds) and the speed of the song is either slightly too slow or slightly too fast which is VERY strange!! Has anyone had this problem before???????? I'm using a Tascam US_122L USB midi/audio interface which is plugged into my DJ mixer. PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON THIS PROBLEM!!! THANK YOU!

Same here. Worked fine when I installed it 2 days ago, then all tonight it's been recording fine, but the playback is riddled with LOUD pops and clicks. I uninstalled/reinstalled and that didn't help. Pretty frustrated.

It's extremely unlikely that the problem is due to Audacity.
Perhaps the sound card drivers have been updated? See if you can roll back the drivers.
Also check if your hard drive needs defragmenting.

I tried defragmenting my hd and had no luck. Its so weird. In addition to the snaps, pops and crackles, why would the recording be speeding up and then slowing down during play back for no reason out of the blue when it was working fine before? Although the speed does not drastically change you can still tell that it speeds up and then slows down. I also recored some mixes using Adobe Audition and have no problems at all. *scratching my head*

Ok so I tried dragmenting my HD and no luck. I don't think the drivers got updated either because I didn't do anything to update them. Also my tascam midi/audio interface is pretty old so I don't think there are any more updates for that. Just so weird how the tempo can speed up and slow down slightly with all the snap, crackles and pops for no reason. Any other suggestions?

Does only the speed (tempo) change or is the pitch also changing?
