Local Help Manual
Have just installed Audacity 1.3.13 beta on an XP machine that is not connected to the internet. This PC did have Audacity 1.2 installed previously. I like the program and this is only a small niggle really and have a work around, but would prefer a tidier solution. The problem is that The Local manual (help files) cannot be accessed from the Help menu or from the Welcome flash and as this PC is not on the Internet can not obviously get them in a browser online. Have looked at the audacity.cfg file and it is Help=Local. The help files are in program filesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)helpmanual. The work around is to Create a short cut to index.html and put it on the desk top or where ever. The manual then works fine. It would be neater to get the help menu manual to work. My questions are : Why doesnt the help menu manual pickup the index.html and is there any way of pointing this to index.html? Can the audacity.cfg file be modified to show the path? Is it a registry problem? Is it a programming problem? Have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times but still no luck. As I say only a minor niggle but has any one else had this problem and found a solution?
Re: Local Help Manual
Did you install Audacity with the "Windows installer" version of Audacity (the .exe file) or with the .zip version?
Did you install Audacity in the default location?
Where are the help files on your computer? (full directory address)

Re: Local Help Manual
The default location is on the C: drive, not the D: drive.audiopix wrote:Installed in the default location as shown in the installer.
Please check where the "audacity.exe" is located.
Is it in:
D:/Program Files/Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)/
or
C:/Program Files/Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)/
Assuming that it is on the D: drive, check that the path to the index page is exactly
D:/Program Files/Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)/help/manual/index.html

Re: Local Help Manual
The installer installed Audacity automatically on the D: drive I did not change it.Steve wrote:

Nearly all program files are on the D: drive on this computer
C: Drive is only 80GB
This is the exact location of "audacity.exe" D:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)audacity.exe
This is the exact path of the index page D:Program Files/Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)helpmanualindex.html

Re: Local Help Manual
I am also having trouble with this on my new Windows 7 computer. There are two program files directories, one named Program Files and the other named Program Files (x86). audacity beta installed in the Program Files (x86) directory and the help files are in this directory in the locations where they are supposed to be. Yet, I cannot access these help files from within Audacity Help. I'm wondering if the audacity beta installation did not install the correct path to the help file (e.g., the path may refer to the Program Files directory instead of the Program Files (x86) directory. Any suggestions?
Re: Local Help Manual
The help files are located in
D:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)helpmanual
These run perfectly in Firefox (all the html files) but you can't pick them up via the Help menu "Manual (in web browser)" or the startup Welcome screen!
Just out of interest I have reinstalled Audacity on the C: drive. C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)helpmanual. To see if that made a differnce.
Same thing. Help files seem to be all present and correct but still don't come up from the Help menu or welcome screen.
It seems there is a problem. Any further thoughts by any one?

Re: Local Help Manual
Audacity just looks for helpmanualindex.html (slashes according to operating platform) relative to the directory the application is in.
To both of you:
Are you running Windows in English or some other language?
Are you clicking in the menu item, using ALT + M, or using a shortcut?
What exactly happens when you cannot access the Manual? Do you see the message that the Manual is not installed? Or does nothing apparently happen? If the web browser is already running when you click the menu item, does that help?

Re: Local Help Manual
This is really odd!! It started working today after failing for several days since I installed Audacity.
However, to answer your questions:
Was running Windows 7 64 bit in English
Was clicking on the menu item in the Help pull-down
Net browser (IE) was not open
Nothing happend when I clicked the menu items. No message, no nothing.
