I have the Windows 7 OS with Sound Recorder. I can't drag the music I recorded on this program because of the format. So I would like to record music using my CAD U37 USB mic, and I would like to record it directly to the Audacity program. My problem is that I don't know how to configure Audacity so that it picks up sound from my mic. When I click on Edit/Preferences/Devices I cannot select the option that corresponds to the setting in my computer's sound panel. "No Devices Found" is what I see. On my sound panel Sounds and Audio Devices Properties under Sound recording I inserted "C-Media USB Audio Device." That's what I was instructed to do in the CAD manual.

I'm new to all this - like two days with Audacity. But I can follow a step-by-step guide. I think once I (or you) solve this problem I'll be able to use Audacity to do some simple tasks.

To use a USB device in Audacity you must connect the device to the computer and wait until Windows has recognised it before you open Audacity.
You will then be able to select the device as the recording device in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices".
Ensure that you select your normal sound card as the playback device (not the USB microphone) or you won't be able to playback from Audacity.
