Firstly , HUGE T H A N K S for this facility!

Apologies if this topic has been discussed previously, but as getting my head around terminology is at the route of my problem, my ability to search for the appropriate topic is limited.

Problem;

Context: Stereo Audio track from 'Mini Disc' recorded - No problem.

I want to Augment Bars 1-4 by using Bars 5-8 (Copy & Paste to additional Stereo track, then line-up to match Original) [No Bars or Click track employed in Audacity programme - Just pure Audio]

The Problem I have is that of Pasting or positioning the new Stereo track so that it is in Sync with the original track. The Close/ Expanded view of the Waveform is very useful to identify the position at which I need to Paste & then introduce the Copied section. I know there must be a tool that allows me to drag the second track to line up with original track, but can't seem to find it.

I have tried 'Cut' facility to varying degrees on the few seconds Silence prior to begining of track, but it is proving really difficult to get the Snare hit exactly in line with original track.

I see tantilising words like 'Track Alignment' & 'Track Sync' only to fail to Click on the correct edit to achieve my objective.

What term do you give to what I'm trying to achieve?

Can you help?

Many thanks

Eddie

Select bars 5 to 8, with a bit extra before and after.
Press Ctrl+D (or select "Duplicate" from the Edit menu).
Press the F5 key (or press the button with the double headed arrow <-->) to select the Time Shift tool.
Click on the duplicate bars and drag left/right.

Tip: Ctrl+Mouse Wheel to zoom in/out

Use the Envelope tool (F2 key) to fade the new audio clip so that you get a smooth transition.
If you want to replace the original bars 1-4 you can again use the Envelope tool to fade out those bars.

Envelope tool: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Envelope_Tool

F1 key takes you back to the normal "selection" tool.
