Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Can't open aup files from file search

Post by zfwzxrgb » Wed May 04, 2011 3:57 am

Windows XP sp3 OS
I have numerous aup files saved on C: and an external HD. Did some drive cleaning and moved a bunch around to new folders.
When I select "Recent Files" and try to open the files shown Audacity 1.3.13 naturally says it can't locate the files. (Were moved)
But if I do a “search all files and folders” file search, then click on one of the files located I get a message saying: (file name) .aup is not a valid Win32 application when Audacity 1.37 tries to open the aup files.
However I can click on and open them if I select an old 1.26 audacity program but then it says “this file was saved using audacity 1.3.7 , ..... need to upgrade”

What am I missing here? Any ideas as to how to get Audacity 1.3.13 to open up a file from the file search?
Also, since upgrading to 1.3.13 I am getting a constant orphan files found when ever a aup file is opened. Did the same on 1.3.7. Any ideas on this?

Thanks in advance for any help one might give.

That's probably the problem.
An Audacity project is not just the .AUP file. The AUP file is tiny because it does not contain any audio data.
