Ogg Encoder Clips Short Clips

Post by jcdietz03 » Mon May 02, 2011 11:28 pm

I am not sure how to reproduce this for you...

I can try giving you a download of a project file and giving you two timestamps to export as OGG to verify you get the same result.

Problem:
When exporting short clips (<1 second) using "Export Selection," intermittently (about 50% of the time) the end of the clip will be cut off by about 0.2 seconds. It's not a frequency thing. It depends on the timestamps. For given timestamps and a project file, the problem will either always or never appear.

The problem doesn't appear when exporting to MP3 (the same timestamps). Haven't tried other encoders in Audacity.

That's the correct version.

I've tested exporting 16 short (less than 1 second) samples, but I can't reproduce the problem. All exported Ogg files are exactly the correct length.

Is it just this one project that is causing the problem?
Are you able to reproduce the problem by generating tones, then exporting? If you are, please give precise steps and I'll see if I can reproduce it here.

It's not a problem with Audacity. It's a problem with my player. I know you can't help with that.

I played the file using Zoom Player and the end of the file is cut off. I played the file using Firefox and it played fine. I think that confirms the problem is not with Audacity. Thanks for your time.

Have a try with VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ or Winamp

They're both free and support ogg vorbis out-of-the-box.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Foobar2000 is one of my favourite audio players for Windows. It's light, fast, supports lots of audio formats, can convert from one format to another, can rip CDs, supports tagging and has a library manager, and it is free.
