Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Problems using LAME 3.98.2 on Windows 7

Post by whatIsGoingOn » Mon May 02, 2011 2:44 am

Hi,

I followed the instructions at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... stallation to allow my Audacity version 1.3.13-beta, running on my Windows 7 PC (not laptop) to export MP3 files.

I encountered no difficulty when locating the LAME. However, when it came time to export to MP3, the "Export" option is greyed out.

I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Greyed export is not related to lame installation... Are you in pause mode? Click the Stop button... Is Export still greyed out?
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Thanks for the reply. I believe I am already in pause mode, since I can't even click on the Stop button. Could my exporting problems be related to my sound card?

No, you should not be in Pause mode. Audacity must be fully "stopped" (not pause) to be able to export.

??? why not?

No. The sound card is not relevant to the export options.

I cannot click on the stop button because it is greyed out.

This is what my procedure was when I ran into the problem:

1. Followed instructions for LAME.
2. In Audacity, I clicked on "Import > MIDI".
3. I selected the midi to convert to MP3. It is on the desktop.
4. The file is loaded into Audacity. The "Stop" button is greyed out, the other 5 buttons on that row are not.
5. When I go to "File > Export", the "Export..." button is greyed out.

I really don't know what to do. Thanks for the help.

You forgot to mention that little, but important, detail...

From the wiki here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Midi
You can read:
MIDI and Audacity

Stable (1.2.x) releases of Audacity can currently only import MIDI files to view them.
Beta (1.3.x) releases of Audacity are now slowly adding support for MIDI. As of October 2008, MIDI files can be imported, cut-and-paste edited, then exported as MIDI. However this feature is still buggy, and there is no MIDI playback. Conversion from MIDI to audio formats, and from audio formats to MIDI is not supported.
Audacity cannot record MIDI input, only audio input.

That means you're already in stop mode... Usually when someone complains about things being greyed out it means they're not in stop mode, so that's usually our first suggestion... But in your case that was not the problem... The problem is that you're trying to export a midi to mp3, which is not currently possible in audacity...

See the wiki topic on the link above for more info on that.
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
