Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Recording using USB

Post by seagull259 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 10:50 am

I have a laptop with Windows 7 & have downloaded Audacity 1.3 (Beta) which is recording fine from the internal mic and anything being streamed through the laptop. However I wish to record the output of my HiFi amp and have connected this to the laptop using the tape out sockets to a USB port on the laptop. The cable is a 3 RCA Phono cable, with the yellow plug unused, to USB. I am though unable to find a line in option or equivalent in Audacity. Any help would be most appreciated.

Most laptops don't have a line-in.

I'm not quite I understand how are you connecting it to the usb port... You should be using some sort of line-to-usb adapter such as in this picture: http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/UCA202.jpg
Right? Which device is that?
You can't connect an analog signal directly to an usb port, you know that right?

When recording from an usb device, on audacity's device list, you should be looking for something with "USB" on its name...
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).
