Delay in listening while recording

I'm getting about a 1/2 second delay in monitoring what I'm recording. Can anyone tell me why and what to do to fix it?

You cannot "fix" the delay with software playthrough monitoring. If you must use a USB mic, upgrade to one that has a headphones jack for hardware monitoring. Or use a mic connected to the mic port of the computer then unmute the mic on the "Playback" side of "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the Windows Control Panel, which also gives you hardware monitoring.
