Accidental Save

Hi I was recording our school recital in two halves as we have an interval in the middle.

I saved the first half as first half recital and then left in the interval to go get a coffee.

When I returned was greeted by a blank screen in Audacity (not realising that I had only "x"d off the first half recording).

So I proceeded to record the second half and at the end saved it (File save rather than file save as). It was at this point that I realised that the filename was still first half, and now when I look at all of the data and au files for the first half, they are all taken from the second half due to my stupid error.)

Is there any way to get back the data from the original first half recording? It seems that the new data files for the second half replaced rather than added to the original first half ones.

Thanks for any help!

Only if you haven't closed the Audacity project in the meantime - very unlikely I know,

But if f0r some reason that you have left that PC on and not closed the Audacity project then you should still have all the Undo history available and should be able to undo back to just before you x-ed the first half.

If this is the case: export the second half first to a WAV file so that you have a safe capture copy - then do the necessary undos - and then save the first half as a WAV as a safe capture copy.

Yeah didn't think of that at the time.

Thanks though.
