Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Track Separation

Post by johnw » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:33 pm

I am a beginner. I recently converted a Vinyl LP Record using Audacity 1.2.6 However, when I exported the file as a WAV File, the LP was saved as a complete continuous file and not individual Track (song) files. After some reading, I did the following: Under the "Tracks" menu, I followed the "Add Label At Selection" instruction and then exported it as a WAV file. All the Tracks were saved as individual WAV files. I expected to see a folder with the individual files inside. How could I achieve this? When I eventually save this to my Music Library, I want to see one Album, then when it is opened, the individual song files would be seen and available for playing. Please help.

In the "Export Multiple" dialogue you can select where you want the files to be exported to.
If you want them in a separate folder, create an empty folder first, then select it as the export destination.

That part of your question depends on what media library software you are using. We don't officially support software other than Audacity, but if you say what software you are using, someone may know the answer to that.

Thanks for your responses so far. My music library uses "Windows Media Player". Any further suggestions ?

Personally, on my PCs I run iTunes for my music jukebox/library - but that's partly because I also run iPods. Works well on all our PCs at home XP-HE, XP-Pro, Win-7 (and Vista when my wife had that on her PC a while back). It's available for free download from the Apple iTunes site, you don't need to buy amn iPod to run iTunes

I know though that Steve hates iTunes, as he regards it as bloatware.

Yes, but I'm fair with my criticism - I dislike Windows Media Player just as much :D
