Compatible with M-Audio Fast Track USB interface?
I'm getting back into voiceover work, after a long hiatus, and need a laptop setup. I haven't yet used Audacity, as I purchased an M-Audio Fast Track USB. Pro Tools SE software came with it. I've had the PT software on my computer for a month, and still have not been able to record a decent voiceover session, because of problems, the latest of which is serious distortion as I record speaking voice. I've been on the phone with Sweetwater tech support for hours, over the past several weeks, to no avail. I'm considering simply downloading Audacity 1.3.13 (Beta), and uninstalling the PT software, but first, I need to know if Audacity 1.3.13 Beta is compatible with the M-Audio Fast Track interface. If so, are there any issues I should know about? Thanks, much.
Re: Compatible with M-Audio Fast Track USB interface?
Audacity should work with the M-Audio Fast Track, but don't necessarily expect it to solve the distortion problem - it's quite likely that the distortion problem is due to a sound card set-up issue and if that's the case you will still need to fix that problem. Of course you may be lucky and find that everything works perfectly straight away, but if not, let us know and we'll see if we can get you up and running.

Re: Compatible with M-Audio Fast Track USB interface?
Thanks, Steve. Quick question: where do I find/how do I access Private Messages? I received an email in my personal email, stating there is a private message on Audacity, but I think it may be a bogus email. I want to check Audacity's Private Messages, before reporting it. Thanks, Dennis

You should see a line in the Audacity banner that says User Control Panel (x new messages) ...
the x tells you how many you have, just click on the "x new messages" to view (and create/send)

Re: Compatible with M-Audio Fast Track USB interface?
I think I may be having the same problem, altho I am using Audacity. I have a hum when recording our pastor. I have a feed coming from a Yamaha LS 9 through an M Box to a new Gateway Desktop computer. Would the UCA-202 or 222 be helpful? I am now using a Tascam DR1 to record with a feed from from the LS 9 until I get the hum fixed. Also, is there a way to EQ live?
Re: Compatible with M-Audio Fast Track USB interface?
A UCA 202 will almost certainly be better quality than the on-board sound card, but there's no way that I can predict if it will cure the hum problem - that depends on where the hum is coming from.
Audacity does not do any live processing. The Yamaha LS 9 has comprehensive Eq facilities, so if required you can EQ the sound there.
