I cannot export sound in mp3 using audacity I get "lame.exe has stopped working" both in windows Vista & Windows 7... also in Windows XP (lame.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close) is there some kind of issue regarding Audacity & lame.exe? and how do I fix? Google didn't get anything relevant!!

Audacity should not be using lame.exe, it should be using lame_enc.dll.
See here for how to install lame. Follow the instructions to the letter and it should get MP3 export working. http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3

By the way, did you manage to resolve the other problem? http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 16&t=55147

how do I get it to use lame_enc.dll? it has defaulted to using lame.exe since i first started using audacity back in '07!!

the other problem... I need to restart my computer then it works... but it has been doing that from time to time, forcing me to restart my computer... I don't know what the deal with that is... never needed to restart, now all the time... but since the topic I have been needing to restart a lot now!!

When was the last time you did an error check and defragment? Are you filling up your hard drive? If the machine insists on crashing all the time it may be time to run a memory tester.

Audacity can cause computer instability by failing to deal with badly written plugins. Audacity 1.3 has a preferences setting called Effects > Enable Effects. Turn all your plugins off and restart Audacity. See if the stability improves.

it's not machine crash, I restart every time I plug in my microphone... somehow my soundcard doesn't recognize my microphone without restarting my computer... upon restart, My soundcard sees my microphone, but if I unplug my microphone, I would need to restart while my microphone is plugged in to use it again (for soundcard to recognize it again)

I'm aware that some versions of Lame for Audacity have included both the lame_enc.dll and lame.exe, but for normal exporting of MP3 files Audacity uses the lame_enc.dll and not lame.exe.
The instructions for how to get Audacity to use lame_enc.dll are in the link that I've already posted. Here it is again: http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3

If you have trouble getting the instructions to work, please describe exactly and in detail what you have done so that we can help you fix it.

Regarding the microphone problem, could we deal with that in the other thread. It will get really confusing if we are trying to sort out two unrelated problems in the same conversation. I've replied about the microphone here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 16&t=55147
