Windows 7. Out of the blue I received the error message: "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project samople rate." I had just successfully digitized one side of a cassette. The sound device on the computers Control Panel and Audacity settings are the same.

I've been known to clear that particular version of the error by opening and closing the preference panels having to do with that -- Quality and Devices -- and restarting Audacity.

Try rebooting. If that does not fix it, please give more information about your set-up, the settings, and how it's all connected together.

The device is MME.

Playback: Speakers/Headphones(IDT HIgh

Recording: Microphone (USB Audio Device) Cassette2USB converter

Quality is 44100 HZ 16 bit Default Sample Format

Conversions are both Fast Sine Interpolation with no dither.

Windows 7 device manager recognizes the usb audio device but the sound manage audio device screen is balky.

So I unplug every thing turn it all off, it works momentarily. I go to set up my next recording session and the same error message is back.

Very capricious.

Thanks for anything you can do to help me.

Regards,

Acw

Do you also have the USB device set to 16 bit 44100 Hz (CD Quality) in the "Sounds" section of the Windows Control Panel?
Have you tried it connected to a different USB port?
You've not got it connected via a USB hub?

How, exactly, did you do it? Remember this is not a Help Desk. It's a dialog.
