Hi,
I was using audacity successfully sending MP3 files via email until I got a new laptop. Now the files are huge (696 MB) and I can't send them anymore. So i paid $50 to "You Send It' in order to send big files, and I STILL CAN"T SEND THEM! On my old computer the files were very small. Now they are huge. Do you know what happened? Am I using the wrong setting? I emptied my cookies and cache like "You Send It" suggested but nothing helped. Please help me as I have many business files waiting to be sent.

Click on the "Options" button on the Export dialogue screen.
Exporting MP3s is always a trade-off between sound quality and file size. The default in 1.2.6 was "128kbps CBR", which is generally considered to be the minimum for reasonable quality stereo music. (The "Presets" or "VBR" settings will generally produce better sound quality than a "CBR" encoded file of the same size.)

What sort of "content" are your files? Music? Speech? Do they need to be stereo? How important is the sound quality?

MP3 file size changes depending on settings in the Audacity Export panel. The default compression setting, 128, usually results in a very good stereo show with modest filesizes and very little sound damage. If you deviate from that, you can achieve very much smaller files.

For example, if you are in mono instead of stereo, that's an automatic half-size right there. 32 is considered the minimum needed to transmit a mono theatrical show. Below that and most people can hear sound damage; bubbling, gargling and honking.

That may not solve your upload problem. There is nothing natural about Win7 refusing to upload a large file. It will normally just take a very long time. You may have other problems beyond MP3 Export specifications.

Do you have an Information Technology (Geek) on standby? Win7 has achieved a relatively good security reputation by restricting file transfers and connection/access. Do you have your firewalls set to maximum?

Yes, modest file size, but for stereo music the damage is pretty obvious if you listen on decent equipment (particularly noticeable as "swishy" sounds on cymbals and similar sounds that have a lot of high frequency content). It's certainly not "CD Quality".

Most email services cut you off at relatively small attached files. I think Yahoo is 10MB. So there may be two different problems right there.

That is pretty huge. How long is the file? You are "Exporting" from Audacity and selecting "MP3" as the Export format in the Export dialogue screen?

Yahoo Mail is 20MB. I've never used it because I have a web site and can present any size file.

That's the size of an hour stereo show in perfect quality WAV format. You must have done something wrong.
