Extra Sound While Recording

Post by John B. » Fri Apr 08, 2011 7:45 pm

I have a song that when I was recording it I plugged in my printer and it made a Device Connect sound. I found the very sound in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Is there any way I can delete that sound from the song?

Thanks,

John B.

If it was a song you were performing yourself then make sure you are recording from the correct input, not the one meant for recording computer playback. If it was an internet broadcast then there are many programs available for downloading or recording what you are listening to without recording system noises.

I guess your best hope of attenuating it somewhat is to import the WAV into Audacity, select it, click Effect > Noise Removal then "Get Noise Profile". Then select in the recorded track where the noise is, Effect > Noise Removal again and
run the effect.

If the noise is much louder than the rest of the audio also try Effect > Compressor or Effect > Hard Limiter.

What I did was this: I opened the song in Audacity, played it and watched where the noise was at, then I carefully deleted the noise. It amounted to much less than a second. I thought I could copy the original noise to make and delete a copy of it but now I get only an indistinguishable bit of noise. I saved the project and made new .wav and .mp3 files...replacing the old ones. I can live with now and if I wanted I could download the song from scratch.

Thanks for the advice,

John B.
