Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Ok, I went back to where I checked use memory, unchecked it.

Then I noticed another little box right to the right of the 1st box, where I was going to enter the new information, It
was labeled "Choose", I clicked that box, and sure enough one of the options was just like the one you mentioned, I choose that
one , unchecked use memory, saved it, restarted program and presto it works like a champ.

This HP net book only has a 16gb HD, and not alot left at that, and 4 Gb memory.

Thanks for all the help

Now its got me thinking........

Instead of using my C drive, which is kinda full.

Could I use my F drive, its a 8 GB sd card. Its empty.

Maybe change it to F, instead of C, keep the info the same except change the C to F drive

I'd be more inlined to move some of the least frequently used (or even redundant) files to the F drive to free up some usable space on the C ddrive for use with Audacity.

Or even dump some of those files onto an external USB disk.

Apart from any other consideration - running with a very full C drive is never a good idea - I always aim for at least 25-33% free space and I defrag the disk regularly too.

Yes, I thought about moving files over to F drive, thats what I will do.

I wonder how much HD space would be needed to record about 1 hour of thunderstorms?

1 hour at 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit mono, will require about 320 MB.
1 hour at 44.1 kHz sample rate, 32-bit float mono, will require about 640 MB. (default)
If the recording is stereo it will be double (~1.3 GB).
You will also need additional space for "Undo" files if you edit the recording, and space for exporting the recording. A 1 hour Audacity Project can quickly grow to 10 GB or more if you start editing and/or applying effects.
