recording whatever comes thru the soundcard

in windows xp I simply selected auxillary & was able to record anything coming thru the sound card. Now with windows 7 I only have two options between line in & microphone - no auxilary input options. How do I tell audacity to record whatever is coming out of the speakers?

It's possible you may not be able to easily record "Stereo Mix" on your new machine. It got harder and harder to do this as the Windows versions advanced. Some new computers make it very difficult.

This is often referred to as recording "Stereo Mix".
Some sound cards call it "Auxiliary" but more commonly it's called "Stereo Mix" or "Mix" or "What U Hear".
Unfortunately the option is not always available in Windows 7 (or Vista).
