Set of over 90 LADSPA addtl Plug-ins still not showing up

Post by mr coolvibe » Sat Mar 26, 2011 6:16 pm

Hello guys, currently using Audacity Beta 1.3.12 ,my operating system is Windows XP, PC, I have read through Forum topics and Audacity Help for installation of Plug ins etc, most Forum topics found appear to be outdated or for previous Audacity versions. I have downloaded the current 90 LADSPA addtl Plug-ins links described below and saved in Audacity Unicode Plugin folder directly and installation is confirmed complete and all, and keep I going to Preferences to instruct to Rescan after Restarting Audacity, but the Addtl 90 plugins still do not show up in Effects, Generate or Analyze, after restarting over and over?? Even tried to Deselect or disable VST scans in case of conflict , and still to no avail.
There is not much info in Audacity Help screens as far as Troubleshooting why plugins are not showing up, any suggestions why these 90 LADSPA addtl Plug-ins are still not showing up when I launch my Audacity Beta?? Thanks a million!!!

LADSPA Plug-Ins (Info from Audacity Help Page)

Audacity has built-in support for LADSPA plug-ins. These plug-ins are mostly built for Linux, but some are available for other operating systems too. Audacity includes some sample LADSPA effects. Windows users can install an additional set of over 90 LADSPA plug-ins. There is a similar set of LADSPA plug-ins for Mac. More information and many LADSPA plug-ins for Linux can be found on the LADSPA web site.

The file "LADSPA_plugins-win-0.4.15.exe" is not a plug-in, it's an installation package that installs a large set of LADSPA plug-ins.
Move the file out of your plug-ins folder and put it somewhere convenient (for example in "My Documents"), then double click on the file to run it (you may need to enter an Admin password). It will then install the LADSPA plug-ins.
When the installation is finished, (re)start Audacity.

Yep, I tried this too a couple times and restarted a couple times, nothing shows up at all still anywhere in Audacity, just the same basic effects etc.......Hope Audacity Support can provide some more Troubleshoot procedures for this problem, plugin installation appears to be a major problem. Thanks!

Installing VST plug-ins can sometimes be problematic, but that is often the case for other programs and not only Audacity. VST plug-ins are the only type that require "Rescan" of the plug-ins. All other plug-in types should appear automatically when you restart Audacity.

Here's what should happen when you install the LADSPA plug-ins:
  1. Double click on LADSPA_plugins-win-0.4.15.exe
  2. You may get a security warning saying that the software is from an unknown publisher. If you do, click the "Run" button.
  3. Language selection. Select and click the "OK" button.
  4. Installation Welcome screen. Click the "Next" button.
  5. License Agreement. Select "I accept" and click the "Next" button.
  6. Information screen. This displays the LADSPA "Read Me" file. After reading it, click the "Next" button.
  7. Select Destination Location. IMPORTANT. Ensure that the destination is set to the Audacity folder for your installed version of Audacity. If necessary (and probably advisable to check) use the "Browse" button and navigate to the correct plug-ins folder. Click the "Next" button when you're ready.
  8. Ready to Install (Review screen). IMPORTANT. Check that the destination folder is correct, then click the "Install" button.
  9. The LADSPA plug-ins will be extracted from the installer and put into the destination folder. There will be a progress indicator bar while this happens.
  10. Completion screen. The installer will confirm that the setup has finished, or will display an error message if it has failed. Click the "Finish" button.
Depending on your operating system and security settings, you may need to enter the Administrator password at some point during the installation.

IMPORTANT When selecting the destination menu, ensure that the location is exactly correct. For Audacity 1.3.12 the destination folder should normally be:
C:Program FilesAudacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)Plug-Ins
Ensure that there is not an extra "Plug-ins" added onto the end of the location path.

Restart Audacity and the new plug-ins should now be in the menus.

Roger that Steve, you are spot on, apparently the download was saving plugins to previous old Non-Beta version of Audacity, so as you say, you have to verify and confirm exactly where it is saving the plugins, which I did , and they all now show up in Audacity without problem now. Just wish could preview some of the 90 plugins before download, after going through most of them, really cannot use any for my music, I guess these are mainly for very intricate and detailed music production uses etc. Thanks again for the resolution to that one!!!

I am really trying to find cool DJ effects like Mixing and Scratching Audio Sound Effects, or random all over the city noises and sounds to add to my music or song editing to give a unique sound etc. Anyone know of any Free Plugins like these can use in Audacity Beta?? Many Thanks!!!
