Can't hear

Forgive me I am new at this and I am desperate. I really need this recording. I recently recorded using Aud.1.3 but when I got finished I "saved as" and saved it directly to my desktop. Now when I open it I can't hear anything. I can see see the sound waves and even the windows volume looks as though sound is going through. I can't find any mutes that might be turned on. and all volumes are up. In fact when I play previous recordings made weeks ago they work perfectly.
I've read other posts that look kind of familar to my problem and they say to "move the file back to the original place." That dosen't make sense to me. I don't know where that would be since I saved it to begin with at the desktop. I don't quite understand the Jargin. Can someone explain this to a simpleton like me? Please!
Or is there possibly a different solution?

When you "Save" in Audacity, it "Saves" an "Audacity Project".
There are 2 parts to an Audacity Project - there's the .AUP file, and then there's the audio data.
For projects that were created by recording into Audacity, the audio data will be in a folder that ends with "_data".
You need to have both the .AUP file and the _data folder.

More info about Audacity Projects: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects

To create a normal stand-alone audio file, you need to "Export" from Audacity.

Ok so thats why when I saved it to the desktop it made to icons... ? One icons name ends with _data and the other with .aup so do i need to merge them together somehow?

You've got both of them?
Phew, that's good news :P
Do not move them, do not rename them, do not do anything to them.

Are other sounds playing OK on your computer? (Windows Media Player?)
How did you make the recording?
If you open the project in Audacity and press Play, do the green playback meters move (indicating that it's playing sound)?

[Update]

Congratulations :D
(You posted while I was typing)
What did you do to get your sound back? (it may help other users that have the same problem).

Now that you've got the sound back, it'll be a good idea to Export (File menu > Export) so that you have a normal audio file - even if you've not finished the project yet, it's always good to have a back-up.

I opened the .aup file which opend up in Audacity and then went to File > Export and saved with the mp3 fromat. Once it finished I clicked play and I could hear it. Now its a matter of trying to figure out on how to get it to cd.
Thanks again for your help.
