Exported MP3 stops playing after 16 min

Post by toothdeuce » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:16 pm

I have imported 2 tracks into audacity, both tracks equal a 2 hour runtime BUT for some reason when I export the whole thing as a mp3, it only plays 16 min of the track and then stops. I checked the properties on the mp3 and the length is 2hrs but still won't play pass 16:00 HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

What happens if you import the track back into Audacity?
How much free space do you have on your C: drive?

I'm having a similar problem but must also confess that I'm a newbie. However, In my case, I'm working in Win7 (x64) with a 825GB of free space on C: drive (yes, it's a new computer a big C: drive). I have the original digital voice recording of a meeting that is 1.5 hours in length, and my recorder records it in .wma format. I have downloaded the latest FFmpeg (FFmpeg_2009_07_20_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe) from http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/and installed it.

My original .wma file is 21,029KB in size. After I import this file into Audacity 1.3-Beta (Unicode) and immediately export it as a mp3 file, the new mp3 file is 22,391KB. Both wavforms only show 25 minutes of recording (both imported wma and exported mp3).

When I listen to the original wma file using Windows Media Player, it is complete in playing the 1.5 hour meeting. When I listen to the mp3 file exported from Audacity, it only plays back the first 25 minutes of the meeting. So it seems like Audacity is having a problem with the initial import of the recording, i.e., not importing the entire file, and hence the exported mp3 is not complete. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How long is the track in Audacity before you export it?

The initial imported track is 25 minutes so it appears it's exporting what it's getting on the import.

And I presume that the 25 minutes that is imported sounds normal?

It could be a slightly damaged WMA file, and as FFmpeg's WMA support is still experimental it may be less fault tolerant than other converters.
You could try converting the WMA file to a WAV file then import the WAV file into Audacity, using a (free) 3rd party converter such as Super by erightsoft (or other format converting software) to convert from WMA to WAV.
