I am wondering how to remove a swear word in a song... I don't just want silence, but to make the effect that is used for radio stations songs. Examples are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhxCy_5Gx0w at 23 seconds when the word "a*s is used"
Please help!! What effect is used there?

They've used a pitch bend effect on the vocal track.
You can get a similar effect using Audacity 1.3.12
Select the bit that you want to change, then
"Effect menu > Sliding Time Scale/Pitch Shift"
Set "Final Pitch Shift" to -12 semitones
