Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Worked before, then stopped.

I downloaded 1.3 a month or so ago. Before that I had been using the previous version. I used them to record audio from my speakers (streaming). I run Vista so I enabled stereo mix. Set Audacity up to record from there. It worked great.

I had not used it in a couple days. I go about my usual routine for recording. Load the audio I wanted to record (funny youtube vid), pushed record, pushed play on the video. Same thing I did a couple days ago. I switch back to Audacity, and it's just flat lines. My sound was all the way up like usual. Everything was just like it was two days ago when it recorded a song. I touched nothing either on my audio settings, or it's settings since then. I downloaded no programs.

I searched this forum and read these threads:
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... und#p78723
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... und#p18467
Plus some pages on a bing search.

I even un/re-installed. Re did the settings. Nothing.

I took screenshots of my settings. If you need anything else I would be happy to provide it.

Try changing the default recording device from "Microphone" to "Stereo Mix" (your second picture).
Also check the "Properties" of Stereo Mix (Properties button on that same window) and check that the recording format is set to 44100 Hz CD Quality Stereo.
