Export format

I have Audacity 1.3.12 and Vista. Several moths ago, I successfully exported ( saved) my project file as .wav and was been able to burn it as an audio CD which played on my computer, a CD player and in my car CD player. However, today, when I tried to save a new file as .wav, it saved only as a " file", not a ".wav" I can play the file with my computer's Windows Media Player, but when I burned it to disc it will not play in the CD players. Why can't it export as in .wav format. Have Vista updates anything to do with this??
