Export format

I have Audacity 1.3.12 and Vista. Several moths ago, I successfully exported ( saved) my project file as .wav and was been able to burn it as an audio CD which played on my computer, a CD player and in my car CD player. However, today, when I tried to save a new file as .wav, it saved only as a " file", not a ".wav" I can play the file with my computer's Windows Media Player, but when I burned it to disc it will not play in the CD players. Why can't it export as in .wav format. Have Vista updates anything to do with this??

Save produces Audacity Projects - you need Export to make WAVs (and other usable audio files). See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects
