Seeking a codec/filter that will help me mimic radio chatter

Thanks for the great product. I'm going to be making sound files for a flight simulator and want the audio output to sound filtered/distorted in the manner of military radio comms. There are so many codecs available for Audacity, can anyone recommend one? Or might such a thing already be incorporated into the Audacity Beta for Windows Vista?
Many thanks in anticipation.

You can start by applying the equalizer tool in the "telephone" setting: drop everything below 300 and above 3000. There may even be a pre-baked filter that does this.
Then apply Effect > Leveler about three times at maximum compression.

Koz, your suggestion was very helpful. However, I cannot find a "Telephone" settting in the Effects/Equalizer tool, can you advise? Many thanks.

You have to build it. Run Effect > Equalization. The blue line in the middle is a rubber band and you can push it around with your mouse. Make it look like this...

In Audacity 1.3, you can save it for use later.

Perfect! Thanks a lot, Koz. It'll get a lot of use.
