My apologies jackobyDawg, yes it does look like I said that reducing the number of bits is "Sample Rate Conversion" :oops:
However, in my defence (do I really need a defence?) I was responding to your comment:
Regarding dither, there was no sample rate conversion going on which is where the options for dither appear.
and if you really did mean sample rate in that context, then afraid I don't know what you were saying there or why you were raising the issue of sample rate.

As far as I can gather, your question was about why exported files not numerically identical to the file that was imported if there has been no editing or processing.
