Hi, i'm new to this forum because i intended to download the audacity 1.3.12 but after i saved then opened the file it said that the file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. I was wondering whether this normally happens or whether the system has been hacked (??) :? . Any help will be thankfully recieved.

Oops - you've posted to the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum - I'll move it to the 1.3 section.

The correct download site for Audacity is here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
It is safest to only down Audacity from the official Audacity web-site. The actual Audacity code is hosted by Google Code, but going to the Audacity site will help you to download the correct version for your system (currently that would be Audacity 1.3.12 Unicode for Windows).

As with most free and open source software, Audacity does not pay Microsoft for digital signing. This does not mean that it is unsafe, it just means that it is not digitally signed, but of course Microsoft would prefer that you used software that they received some payment for. Ironically, even some Microsoft downloads are not digitally signed.

Yeah, I always laugh at the little checkbox, when installing Microsoft software, that gives the option to "always trust content from this publisher" :-) That's just a little too much trust for me.
