Hello,

I have a Pentium 4 2.0 processor with 512 of ram. The cpu is 5 -6 yrs old.
I am using a Lexicon Lambda 4x4 for My I/O
When attempting to record a 2cd audio track , the counter wont move and basically its frozen.
Sometimes I get an error msg reading a latency issue and audaciity reset to 0.
I have tried working with the buffers and turning off unneeded background services like anti-virus software. Nothings helping. The minimum requirements for the lexicon are 1.66 processor with 256 of ram.

Please, any and ALL suggestions anyone.?
Should I go back to the older version of Audacity?

You've not mentioned your operating system, but I'm guessing Vista?

I'm not totally clear about what the problem is.

You are able to record a track, but when you try to record a second track the cursor does not move?
Any error messages?
What do you have set in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"?

H

Thank you so much for responding.

My OS is XP
The problem is when I go to record a 2cd audio track the cursor doesn't move. At first I would get an error msg when I would hit the stop button after attempting to record the 2CD track however that doesn't appear any longer but the same problem persists. The original error msg (unfortunately I didn't do a screen shot) would say something to the effect of " Latency correction setting has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before zero. Audacity has brought it back to start at zero. ( and something about time shift which after further investigation meant the 2 tracks weren't locked in sync which i learned about watching you tube videos)

My devices are as follows
Host -MME
Playback _- Device- Lexicon Lambda I/O
recording - Device lexicon Lambda I/O
Channels - stereo 2- channel

I have tried changing it to mono and that doesn't help

Ok. I realized I hadn't switched the channels in the devices to mono so I just tried that. I was able to record 2 mono tracks However I was only able to start recording the 2cd track by hitting the record button , the track appears and immediately it is tracking (which I know is part of audacity's features as well) maybe I need to play around with sound activated recording function
and also each of the additional tracks are faster in tempo and even a bit higher of a tone than what should of been recorded.

also I have an external hard drive but my internal hard drive only has 6% ( I know I should obviously have more alloted) left on it. Maybe thats why tracking in stereo is causing problems. Will I have to split to mono tracks to stereo if I want a stereo track such as my keyboards? however I still cant hit the pause button and record then hit pause to activate....the cursor wont move on the 2cd track then only when i initially just hit the record button and the track "appears" and is recording immediately

Why are you talking about "Sound Activated Recoding"? Where does that come into the picture?
What exactly are you trying to do?
(please avoid using abbreviations - I don't know what you mean by "2cd")

Hi Steve,

I only brought up sound activated recording so I wouldnt be forced to started immediately recording when I hit the record button. I am not able to hit pause then record and then turn pause off to start the track moving. I can only record when I just hit the record button and the track pops up. I cannot even use the add track feature.

essentially I am recording keyboards (organ/synthesizer) on the first track and the issue has been getting the cursor to move when I go to record a second track. When I switched the device channel to mono, I was then able to record multi-track meaning an additional track to the first. I still have that record button issue and now I have time shift issues on the second and third track with pitch issues joining the time shift issues.

Thanks for your patience...hope this makes more sense. I think being able to record in stereo maybe my lack of internal hard drive space. An way to actually record directly using my external or is the external only for storage

Audacity really needs to record to an internal hard drive. External hard drives can cause problems as there is no guarantee that they will be accessible when Audacity needs them (which is all the time while recording).

How much free disk space is there on your internal hard drive?
What is the total size of your internal hard drive?
When did you last defragment the hard drives?
