I am a frequent user of 1.3.12 under 64 bit Windows 7. Occasionally, the app will crash and not respond - particularly after having recorded and then going to edit the recorded files after saving.
I have to reboot in order to be able to have Audacity fire up again.
Best,
Tim

Re: Occasional Crash
Have you enabled Audio Cache in the Directories Preferences? This will use computer memory for your edits as well as writing them to disk. Memory only would have been used for your recording, but it's possible all the memory may not be freed up when the recording is finished. If you run short of memory, applications may crash.

Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Re: Occasional Crash
Please read http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Dire ... udio_cache before enabling audio cache. It is a possible source of crashes unless you have a lot of RAM and your computer manages it efficiently, which was why I thought haelen might have it enabled. The crashes are more likely when editing the recording than when making the recording, because all edits are also written to RAM (up to the limit set in the Directories Preferences).
But if you do crash during recording, there will be no automatic recovery of the recording, which there would be if Audio Cache was off.
The real point of Audio Cache is that it helps avoid recording skips where your Audacity temporary directory is a slow drive (writing to RAM is faster). Unless you are in that position, the best general advice is not to turn Audio Cache on.
