Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Hi Angeloeu. Did your friend send you audio files (.wav, .mp3...) or Audacity projects? If they're Audacity projects you need to have the project file (.aup) as well as the data folder. The .aup file is just the instructions of the project, and can not be used without its data folder.

It is much easier if they export an audio file, for example an MP3 or a WAV file, and then e-mail that, rather than try to send an Audacity Project.
MP3s are slightly lower sound quality than WAV files, but they are much smaller, so quicker to send and receive.
