Audacity 1.3.12 crashing everytime!
I keep having this issue with audacity crashing everytime i try to use the SPITFISH vst effects. Ive uninstalled audacity and re installed it but that didnt help, then i uninstalled SPITFISH and all of its components and this still did not help. When i first downloaded the SPITFISH effect, it worked but after i closed out of audacity and came back reopen the program, SPITFISH and its components didnt work and hasnt since then... Any ideas guys????... Also, it crashes when i try to amplify with the " allow clipping " option checked. Lemme know if anyone is having this same problem or if you know how to fix this. Thanks
Re: Audacity 1.3.12 crashing everytime!
Why do you want to amplify with "allow clipping" selected?
Do you have other VST effects installed?

Of coarse i have other VST effects installed, and i want to amplify with allow clipping because i NEED to sometimes and it doesnt always clip when you select it, also just because i can i assume they wouldnt have that option if you werent able to use it right??? .... anybody out there???
Re: Audacity 1.3.12 crashing everytime!
Okay, i dont know why this worked but it did, instead of using the 1.3.12 installer, i redownloaded using the 1.3.12 zip file instead and spit fish seems to be working good now
Re: Audacity 1.3.12 crashing everytime!
There's no "of course" about it. In order to support VST plug-ins Audacity has to trust that the plug-ins are in accordance with the VST specifications, which many VST plug-ins aren't. Badly written plug-ins can cause problems in the host program.Pzolja wrote:Of coarse i have other VST effects installed,
There are a few rare situations when amplifying above 0 dB may be required, for example when creating impulse files for convolution reverb effect, but generally no, "allow clipping" should normally be off (which is why it is off by default). Sound cards cannot handle signals higher that 0 dB, so allowing clipping will cause some degree of distortion that will reduce the playback sound quality.Pzolja wrote: i want to amplify with allow clipping because i NEED to sometimes ... i can i assume they wouldnt have that option if you werent able to use it right???
Having said that, it should not cause a crash.
If you disable VST effects in "Edit menu > Preferences >Effects", does Audacity still crash? If it does, could you give a step-by-step procedure that will cause the crash?
