Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

random static clicking on playback

Post by rivera42 » Thu Feb 10, 2011 1:46 pm

I have been using Audacity successfully for a couple of years on a Dell 2400 desktop PC with Windows XP and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro digital interace. I primarly use it for voice recordings and have had no sound issues at all. I have just downloaded Audacity to an Acer Extensa 5230E laptop with Windows 7 and downloaded the latest drivers for the Fast Track Pro. It seems to be working fine, except that on playback I occasionally hear random clicks or sort of a static noise, kind of like what you might hear if the mic cord was loose or had a short in it. Any suggestions?

If you go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" you should have an option "Host" for either "MME" or "Direct Sound". Try them both and see which works best.
