You can also hit Pause to suspend recording and Pause again to resume recording on the same track.
You cannot record *in front of* (to left of) something you have already recorded unless you record it on a new track and then use F5 to drag the other tracks to right (or cut the new recording, click in front of the old recording then paste).

Append Record in Audacity Beta records at the end of the selected tracks. If you want a "lead-in" you have to make one by inserting silence at the end of the track (hit K on the keyboard, then Generate > Silence, then append record).fnostro wrote:Is there any way to use record append with with some kind of lead in? Do you have to start the record append at precisely the spot where you ended your last record?
See http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=editing&i=join or use Time Shift Tool (F5) to slide the tracks underneath each other so that they play in sequence.fnostro wrote:I had been using ver 1.2. I'm using Audacity to record music
I was trying to record a 32 bar solo, but only 4 bars at a time . So I was getting 8 individual tracks with vers 1.2 .
I did not see any feature to "MERGE" the 8 tracks into one , which would have more than suited my needs.

If you record then SHIFT + Record to record-append, you record at the end of the selected track. So you do not lose what you recorded before. To be sure what track you record-append to, click above its mute/solo buttons to select it before append-recording.fnostro wrote:With vers 1.3 you added the record append feature ...... but.......
Was there a way to ie: record the first 4 bars .... put the cursor at the beginning and then hit record append without losing the first 4 bars. I dont think there is. It seems you HAVE to start your append immediately at the end of the 4 bars. Is that correct?
