Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Pull down menu missing!

Post by Tired_Yeti » Fri Feb 04, 2011 1:29 am

Hi,
My Project pulldown menu is MISSING! My menu bar reads as follows: File, Edit, View, Transport, Tracks, Generate, Effects, Analyze, Help. I have tried to find it within the Toolbars (in the View menu), but it wasn't there. How do I get it to show? Did I not install it yet or something?

I have a project near competion and I'm on a time crunch so I can't just scrap the whole thing and start over with a reinstall of Audacity or something. I need this project to be successful; I'm depending on it to get me a job. Sorry to sound so desperate but I just got to the point where I want to do a quick mix and see how things turn out and I'm stuck.

Anyone know where I can find my Project menu or how to get it to show?

Thanks for your time.
I'm using Windows 7, btw.

Well that looks like a full set for 1.3 to me - that's exactly what my 1.3.12 installation shows.

1.2.x on the other hand did have a Project pulldown menu.

Menu items that were previously in the "Project" menu have been relocated to other menus. For example "Import Audio" is now in the "File" menu.
Audacity 1.3.x has a "Tracks" menu that was not in Audacity 1.2.x.

(Perhaps you are looking at documentation for the 1.2 version of Audacity? The current 1.3.12 manual is listed in the links immediately below this post.)

Thanks!

Yeah, I think I was looking at documentation for v1.2 so I was confusing myself. I was trying to find the Quick Mix function. Instead what I ended up doing was using the "Mix and Render" command, exporting that mixed track into its own file and opening that in a separate session of Audacity, then Undoing the Mix & Render from the original project. That allowed me to have a mix down of what I wanted to hear without having my tracks deleted from my project. The point is that I needed a way mix into a single file so that I could email it to someone for critique, but I need to keep the orginal project intact so that I can make changes if needed.

I wish there was an option in the Mix and Render function to choose whether to have it delete or NOT delete the tracks being mixed.

Anyway, I found a way to get what I needed and I appreciate you folks taking the time to answer my question.

Select the tracks that you want to mix (Ctrl+A to select All tracks)
Then Ctrl+SHIFT+M to mix to a new track.

Thanks, Steve, that will save me time and effort today.
I just noticed (and I mention this for the benefit of other readers who may have similar questions) that I can select multiple tracks individually by holding the SHIFT key down and clicking on several tracks. Unlike Windows where you hold the CTRL key down while selecting items, in Audacity it's done with the SHIFT key.
