Hi, I need to use Audacity to get vocals off of a song for a school project. I have no trouble importing the files, but every time I import, the song is less than a second long, and when I play it, there's no music, but a very unpleasant, high-pitched scratching sound. Did I miss something? I've tried many different things, but I'm very technically challenged, so nothing has worked. That being said, if you know the solution, please give me the answers as if talking to a kid. Need help ASAP.
Thank you!
Imported music is always a high-pitched, scratchy sound

You are trying to manage music that Audacity doesn't recognize. If you really do have Audacity 1.3.12, then download and install FFMpeg from here.
http://audacityteam.org/download/
That will allow Audacity to use many more different file types.
