When Recording on Laptop Mic, Playback Pitch is Way too high

Hey Fellas.

Anybody else have this problem?

I was recording with my lap top mic, and when I push play to hear what i Just recorded, it sounds like I changed the pitch super High. (Quality is also sacrificed somewhat)
The weird thing is, it just started doing this out of the blue. I've used Audacity for Years and never had this problem.
The only thing I've changed lately? I added an Auto Tune Plug-in Lately, ( have both Beta, and the Original Audacity, and both seem to have the problem)
Even though i added that plug in, I don't recall but I think It was changing the pitch on me even before that.
I'm using Windows Vista (not sure if that makes a difference, like i said i've been using audacity for years)

Any help on the topic is appreciated folks. thanks alot!

You can disable VST's in Audacity to find out if it has anything to do with your VST plug-ins. I doubt that it is related, but since you mention it it's worth checking.
To disable VST support, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Effects" and disable VST support completely (I think there are two settings for that - one for VST GUI support and one for VST basic support - disable both). To re-enable VST support, switch them back on in the same place.

Also, I presume that you have rebooted to check that the problem is still there?

If neither of those makes any difference, please check the exact version of Audacity you are using (Help menu > About Audacity) and say what sort of microphone you are using (internal mic, USB mic, mic plugged into microphone socket). Model number for the mic and type of sound card may also be useful.

Cool, thanks for the help Steve!

Ok, like you imagined, Disabling the Plug-in didn't do anything.
That said, here's my Information...

Audacity ® 1.3.12-beta (Unicode)
(and)
Audacity 1.2.6

Mic: (internal) Microphone Array. SigmaTel, High Definition Audio CODEC Driver Version: 6.10.0.5614
Sound Card: SigmaTel, High Definition Audio CODEC Driver Version: 6.10.0.5614

Audacity 1.3.12 is the recommended version for Vista so forget about using the 1.2.6 version.

Go into the Windows Control Panel and check that the microphone is set to record at "44100 Hz CD Quality mono". Then Restart Audacity and in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices" and "Edit menu > Preferences > Quality" check that Audacity is set to record from the microphone - 44100 Hz, 32 bit (float), 1 channel (mono).

Shoooooooot.
Steve, I owe you an apology. I can't believe this problem has haunted me for as long as it Did.

The reason it was so high, is because last time I was on Skype, I was tinkering with my webcam settings and I decided to make myself sound like a child... and left it on that setting after closing my cam.

After going on Skype tonight i realized that was still on.

Oh Lord, Hahaha, I'm sorry for wasting your time with trying to solve this problem hahaha

Thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the feedback. I never thought of that, but it shows something else to consider for anyone having similar problems.
Glad you've got it working.
