No Sounds
I'm a neophyte in this sound/recording/playing business. My operating system is WindowsXP. I have rediscovered my old Sony TC-250A Reel-to-reel tape deck with many recorded tapes. My plan was to record the music to my computer and make CD copies. I purchased a PylePro analog to digital converter with the intent of using my USB port as a way to get the music into my computer. It came with the Audacity program (but I have downloaded the 1.3.x (Beta) version. I went to the Audacity-Wiki site to get help and thought that I was following all the steps. I made the USB Audio Codec as my recording and playback device. I went to my Control Panel Sounds etc. and made sure that the Mute was not checked. I've attempted to record some music with Audacity (with playback to hear as I recorded). Everything seems to work; i.e. the sound monitor works, one the computer screen I get the blue sound spectum graphics; everything but no sound. I cannot get a peep out of my comuter speakers. What am I doing wrong?I'm open to all and any suggestions.
Re: No Sounds
I think you are 95% there.
If you are getting a wiggly blue waveform in Audacity then Audacity HAS recorded.
My guess is that while your USB device is plugged in, nothing plays on your computer (try playing something with Windows Media Player and I'm betting no sound comes out). is that right? If so, these instructions should fix the problem: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/USB_t ... ires_reset

Re: No Sounds
This is a followup.I was able to get sound. However, the recorded sound had excessive static that overpowered the music. I twiddled with settings but to no avail. In reading Wiki I discovered that I could connect my tape deck directly to my computer thru the front blue input plug on my computer. The music played successfully thru my computer speakers. I was not able to find any combination of settings (I tried quite a few)in the Audacity (Beta) program that would then record this music. All I would get is a straight line. Help in either of these situations would be appreciated.

This set of tutorials from the 1.3 manula should help you: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... iscs_to_CD
If after this you are still getting stuck, then pleas post back.
BTW the staticky effect you describe is often down to a poor USB connection. Try (gently) wiggling the USB plug in its socket, or try another USB port, don't use a USB hub, try a different USB lead.
