It's normal not to work with USB microphones. It's quite common not to work on Vista, It's very common not to work on Windows 7, but with a conventional (non-USB) microphone on Windows XP it usually does work and I'm a bit surprised that it isn't.

Here's the mixer settings on my Windows XP machine. Is yours like this?

First the playback screen - note that the microphone playback is enabled and the volume turned up:

Steve,

This is exactly what it looks like and I do have the microphone checked in the box. I'm using a cheap mic that is plugged into the back not a USB mic. I went under options> advanced controls, there was an advanced button and enabled 1 mic boost. I do have audio now.

We'll see how this works
