I am using Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) running Windows 7, on a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. I compose a lot of music. I save my finished songs as mp3 files.
However, it appears that whenever I record a song, AU Format Sound (.au) files are simultaneously created. After a couple of months of recording, I now have thousands of these (.au) sound files appearing in the folder where I save my songs.
Why are these (.au) files appearing in my folder? Is Audacity generating them for some reason? I cannot open them and play them.
Can I safely delete these .au sound files without damaging the songs I’ve already recorded and saved as mp3’s?
The AU files all are exactly 1.01 MB. They are all dated the same date: Friday, December 31, 2010. These files are multiplying like rabbits and slowly eating up all the memory on my hard drive.
Please help!
Also, if you know of a quick way to delete all these (.au) files, without having to delete them one by one, I’d appreciate it!
Can I delete AU Format Sound (.au) files?

Re: Can I delete AU Format Sound (.au) files?
Have a look at this page: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects
Those .au files are part of your project. They should be in a folder ending in "_data". As long as the music is in your project those .au files will continue to exist. If you delete something from your project, the corresponding .au files will be deleted.
You can't do anything with those files (as in play them, edit them, etc.)
