Nearly all menu options disabled?

Hi, I recently downloaded Audacity in order to split a recording into separate tracks. I added labels and such and went to export but found out that it was disabled. I also can't save or pretty much do anything with the menu. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've attached a picture of what my File menu allows me to do and what it doesn't. Any help is appreciated. Thank-you

You are almost certainly in Pause mode. You need to be in Stop mode for the menu options to become available.

WC

UPDATE: you are in Pause mode - the little green downward pointing triangular cursor in the timeline would not be there if you were in Stop mode.

Okay, murphys law. An hour spent, post a topic, than someone walks by, make a comment and you get it resolved. sigh... just click on the timeline anywhere apart from your sound file. That's it! Just click to the right so your little green play vanishes from your being in top of your track.

Also, thank-you waxcylinder!!! Also works.
