Popping noise when exporting as WAV

Post by krypton37 » Wed Jan 19, 2011 1:33 am

Hey all, this is my first post so go easy on me!

Recently I've been recording some small acoustic projects, only consisting of 3 tracks. I've been really happy with how they've turned out. Today, I tried converting them from audacity project files into WAV files, so I can send them off and put them on CDs. When I finished exporting, I added the song to iTunes, and pressed play. The recording was good, but there were annoying popping noises throughout the song at random spots. Confused, I went back and checked over the tracks on Audacity. All the levels are balanced and there was never any clipping or anything. The song plays fine in Audacity. I tried exporting again, but there were still popping noises, but in different places. Discouraged, I went on to try 32 bit, as previously I had used 16 bit. It made no difference. Please help me figure this out, because I really want to get my music out to other people!

I suppose it's worth mentioning my setup-

Asus N53 laptop with i7
Audacity Beta 1.3.12

I know the problem isn't with my recording gear, as the problem occurs during the exporting of the files, i assume. I am 99% sure there isn't any popping or white noise in the recording, I even zoomed in and looked for any anomalies in the waves, but there were none. The weird thing is that the popping occurs in different places every time I export it. Should I try exporting as WAV 64 bit? I don't see how that would make a difference....... Thanks in advance, and I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place. I am new here, so I don't know all the ropes yet.

16 bit WAV is probably the best format for your exported files as it is a very standard format and is ideally suited if you want to burn the files to a CD.
If you import the files back into Audacity and they play all right, then the problem is with iTunes. Is there any particular reason why you are using iTunes as your default audio player?

Assuming that you are using Windows, try playing the WAV files in foobar2000 http://www.foobar2000.org/ (it's free)
