Splitting audio sections

Post by DreamCatcher409 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 10:31 pm

I've mixed a few audio files into one single track, but noticed that they don't blend together quite well, so I wanted to try and make one section start playing while the other one is finishing up, so it kind of overlaps, decreasing the volume in the first while the second section builds up and takes over. How would I go about doing that?

Open the first music file and Import all the others. They should pile up on top of one another in new timelines. You can then use the Time Shift Tool (two sideways arrows) to push each song sideways into position and the Envelope Tool (two white arrows and bent blue line) to fade each track as needed. Mix and render to one stereo track when you get done

I would Save a new Project periodically against the time your computer does something funny and you're only half-way done with the show.

The problem is, I've already rendered it into one stereo track, so the two separate audio files are already saved as one. Is there any other alternative?

If the tracks were butted up to each other with no overlap, then find the exact point where one track ends an the next one begins and click to put the cursor at that exact position (zoom in really close to find the exact position). Then select "Split" from the Edit menu.
You can now create an empty track (or an empty stereo track if it's a stereo recording) and cut/paste one of the tracks to the empty track.
Then proceed as previously described.

I'm guessing I haven't rendered it, because I tried to export it as FLAC file (Which it was originally) but I received a message saying it will be made into two stereo files. How do I mix/render the track as you said?

I think that if you read the warning message more carefully it will warn you that it will "mix down to two stereo channels ..." which is exactly what you want. A stereo-pair, mixed down on Export.

Yeah, I made a mistake. I was listening to the song and thought that a section hadn't been altered, but then realized I forgot to do it myself.
