Is it possible to listen music (on PC) while recording with audacity (new version)
Re: listen to recording
Yes, but more information is needed to give you proper advice... What's your operating system? What's your recording source? How do you have it all connected?lturudic wrote:Is it possible to listen music (on PC) while recording with audacity (new version)
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

Re: listen to recording
hi,
OS is Windows 7, Audacity is ver 1.3.12.
turntable connects to the phono input receiver. Cable stereo cinch - 3mm stereo jack connecting tape monitor to the receiver with the entrance to the sound card in a PC.
Everything is fine, the level is excellent, excellent quality obtained.
But I would like to listen to the recording on the PC while recording
Clearly, when recordings material start in audacity (play) I hear through the PC.
thanks for your post

Re: listen to recording
In Audacity, click on the recording meters - Audacity will turn "monitoring" on and you will be able to listen to the turntable.

Re: listen to recording
heyas, i've managed to switch monitoring on but there is a delay that makes recording vocals impossible (i want to be able to hear as i'm singing / recording and the delay is way distracting). i'm nervous about messing with latency settings, but is this what i should be doing? thanks!

Re: listen to recording
Kila:
What you are experiencing is "software playthrough delay" and there is probably nothing you can do about it. Tell us what computer and operating system you are using, and which version of Audacity and then we'll know if you have any options. Also tell us what microphone you are using (make and model is good) and how you are connecting it to your computer.
Latency correction refers to overdubbing and getting the new track to line up properly with the previously recorded tracks. This will not help your situation.

Re: listen to recording
Hey I've been fiddling around with Audacity trying to fix the same problem you're having and I think I've solved it. I'm using Windows 7, so this is for Windows 7 although I assume it will be similar for other Windows too.
Turn OFF "Software Playback" from Audacity, this always gives me that annoying delay.
Right-click on the Volume Control icon in the taskbar on the bottom right hand corner (on the start menu bar) and click on "Recording Devices".
Go to the Recording tab.
Right-click on the microphone you're using and click on Properties.
Go to the Listen tab and check the "Listen to this device" option.
Hit OK and OK.
Done and done!
Hope this helps!
