Playback level is lower than original

Post by Stephan1953 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 12:09 am

I just received a record player that came with Audacity program, I recorded a test record and burned to a CD. The playback was perfect and so was the CD.
It is the sound level that was very low! How can I adjust the input level ? The slider under the microphone is at max but record level VU meter says it is recording at -21 db the geen output is at the same level ! When the CD changes I have to rush to the volume control to keep from blowing my ears out!
I am recording Stereo, and at 32bit at 441K! Thanks (PS I have Windows Vista)

Check the volume level in the system mixer (in the Windows Control Panel) http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp
Also, some USB turntables have a volume control hidden on the underside.

After you have recorded the LP, edited it and cleaned it up, select the entire LP (which I assume you have on one Audacity track) and do Effect > Amplify, and accept the default settings - this will maximize the volume.

Hello and Thank-you,

The mixer was Hidden ,

after I opened it I was able to augment the record level,

The records never sounded so good as now, and no hiss or scratches, or pops

Again Thanks

Stephan
