NEED ADVICE QUICK! couldn't find it...can you???

Post by npags711 » Sun Jan 16, 2011 1:02 pm

Hey, how are ya guys...

I'm in need of help super quick...need to finish a time sensitive project asap - I created a Voice Over two days ago and I'm ready to edit now but when I went to open the audio - it said "couldn't find the project data folder"...when I press "ok" - it says "could not load file"

Now the issue after looking at some other posts is due to this (I'm pretty sure) ----- I saved the Voice Over originally straight to desktop...then I moved the .aup file to a folder on the desktop b/c I wasn't aware that if you moved it...it would bonk it up...

The other files that go with the .aup - the data files I think they are....they were also in the desktop folder I transferred the .aup file to --- I'm not sure if I manually transferred those files or if they automatically got in there BUT I MUST FIND A WAY TO OPEN THE VOICE OVER!

I'm sure there's a way...it would be ridiculous if not because I have all components of the file - so let me know of what solutions you could provide - I'd be tremendously grateful for your help!

Thanks

-Nino

If the .AUP file (the file that you have opened in Notepad) is called "myproject.aup", then there should also be a folder called "myproject_data".
"myproject.aup" and "myproject_data" must be in the same directory location.

On first glance the .AUP file that you quote looks OK, but you know it is incomplete?

hey Steve, thanks...

that's not the name --- the name is = JV - Video #1 - I have both the data file and the .aup in same location = on the desktop but when I open the data folder - it has a video I downloaded off the internet in there for some reason...and nothing else

I didn't do anything to any of the files though - except for taking the Enounce JV - Video #1 .aup on the desktop where it was originally saved and transferring that to a folder I created on the desktop...

so please give me some solutions and idea's if you have any...thanks!!!

If you moved "Enounce JV - Video #1.aup" from it's original location (on the desktop) to a new folder, then you have to move the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" folder to the same location.

Inside the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" folder there should be a folder named "d00" and inside that folder a number of folders named "e00", "e01" etc. Inside those folders there should be a number of audio files with names that look like this "e0000a98.au".

Accidentally adding a video file to the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" folder should not have deleted the "d00" folder. If you renamed the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" then Audacity will lose the connection between the .aup file and the _data folder.

When look in the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" folder what do you find?

Bill,

This is just some of what I get =

e0000a00
e0000a0c
e0000a0f

(the attachment shows screenshot)

I didn't rename the file - the name has remained the same throughout...I originally saved it to the desktop --- and the only thing I did different was take it from the desktop and move it to a folder on the desktop...

Now the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" only had a file I downloaded from the internet (for whatever reason - I don't know how it got there) but the d00 folder and d01 folders were on the desktop - I moved them to the "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" folder and tried to open the .aup file but didn't work...

I'm as certain as I can possibly be that the issue just has to do with identifying the right location everything should be in...but I'm lost...

Do you...or does anyone have any idea how to solve this issue??

Thanks

Using the "#" symbol in a file name is a bad idea.
Audacity 1.3.12 should be able to cope with most characters (though the operating system will object to certain characters). It's generally advisable to stick to letters, numbers, hyphen, space and underscore in file names.

"Enounce JV - Video #1.aup" and "Enounce JV - Video #1_data" must be in the same location i.e. in the same folder. Show us a screen shot proving that.

Also the "e00yyxxx.au" files must be in "eyy" folders inside the "d00" folder, not loose inside the "d00" folder. It appears (from the screenshot) that you have somehow lost the "eyy" folders - perhaps you moved the .au files from their folders directly into the "d00" folder?

If this is true, you have some work to do reconstructing your project. If there are no "e00", "e01" folders inside the "d00" folders you need to create them, then put the correct .au files into the right "eyy" folders. The way to identify which .au file goes in which folder goes like this:

Each .au file has an 8-character file name: e.g. e0000a0c. The first three characters are always "e00". The next two characters tell which "eyy" folder they go into. For example, "e0000a0c" goes in the "e00" folder, "e0001a7f" goes in the "e01" folder.
