I want to use Audacity on Windows 7 to record the vocals into one track while at the same time record the music that is playing from an MP3 on the computer. I have a Wireless microphone going into the mic in on the laptop.
If this can't be easily done t hen I will have to import the MP3 as a second track and time the start of the vocals.

No, that's when you record six tracks at once. You're overdubbing.
The process for that is to put the MP3 music into audacity first and then use that as a playback guide track to record everything else on additional tracks.
The process for that is different in Windows than it is on Macs, so we need to wait for a Windows elf.

Thanks. I will look at that tutorial. I know my friend needs the lyrics which would normally be showing on the software karaoke player. I'll have to see if she can do it without any lyrics on the screen
