INTRODUCTION:
I’m a very contented user of Audacity. The ‘’new’‘ beta version is for advanced users, and on a moment I thought ‘’I am !!’‘ So I’ve downloaded and trying Audacity beta version, I get immediately a problem. Audacity was working well as the years before, but I could not recording my old cassettes anymore. I’ve un-stalled the beta version, and re-installed the old version. The problem was NOT over. Nobody could help me.
I used my Dutch =>English PC-dictionary and wrote the problem on:
http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4952
I tried several things, but notwithstanding my practice during 25 years, I was very afraid to try the last option: Delete the driver of the soundcard. I did not know how to install that driver again, and I was terrified on a moment I have to re-install Vista an so all my programs etc etc.
SOLUTION:
Because nothings helps, this morning I controlled the wires but they were connected well. After controlling I have deleted the driver of the soundcard.

TEST:
After restart it was not necessary to install the sound driver. Vista looks for the driver self, and install the driver. After that I’ve tested recording and......... the problem was over !! I've both versions on my computer now and both works well.
TIP:
Changing the volume of the recording in Vista has no result; so I do that - as always - by drag the (mic)volume of Audacity. The best recording sound from cassettes is (mic)volume 0.5 or 0.6
