When I record a streaming sound through Audacity (e.g. an online radio), the recording gets interrupted.
I've discovered this happens because Audacity changes by itself the recording mode from Stereo Mix to Microphone, even when there is no microphone plugged.
Why is this happening?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Stereo Mix sound recording being randomly interrupted
It's not Audacity. Windows changes modes automatically when it senses something in the system has changed. We get into trouble all the time with a USB turntable capturing Windows sound services and not putting them back later.
Windows thinks you plugged a microphone in. How old is the sound card? How old is the computer? I think I'd start with a male 1/8" plug and glass cleaner or vodka. Scrub the end of the plug with the vodka and plug it into the Mic-In of the sound card and twist it a couple of times. Do that two or three times. Pull out the plug and put everything away.
Still broken?

Re: Stereo Mix sound recording being randomly interrupted
Thank you. I've plugged and unplugged a microphone and Audacity recorded the stereo mix sounds normally.
